What is Gua Sha?

Gua sha is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves scraping the skin with a smooth-edged tool to stimulate blood flow and alleviate tension in the muscles and connective tissues. At a weight lifting gym, gua sha could be offered as a complementary therapy to help athletes recover from their intensive training and prevent injuries.

A session of gua sha at Infinity Training will start with a consultation to identify the client's specific areas of discomfort or stiffness. The therapist would then apply a lubricant to the skin and use a tool such as a jade scraper to gently scrape along the muscle fibers in a specific direction.

The scraping motion can create redness or bruising on the skin, which is a sign of increased blood flow to the area. The therapist would adjust the intensity of the scraping according to the client's tolerance and feedback.

After the gua sha session, the therapist might recommend gentle stretches or other self-care techniques to maintain the benefits of the treatment. The client should also stay hydrated to support the detoxification process and avoid strenuous exercise for a few hours.

Overall, gua sha can be a beneficial service offered in a gym setting to help athletes or those just looking to relax to recover faster and with less pain. Gua sha therapist can integrate this ancient technique into Infinity Training's modern fitness practices.
